Since the XBOX360 Elite is coming out this month I decided to come up with the version of Microsoft's XBOX360 console that I really want to see released. I would call it XBOX360 Platinum. So, the original XBOX360 Pro version was often referred to as Platinum or Premium, but I don't think either name was ever official. For the sake of this blog I will stick with Platinum.
The Platinum should come in a shiny ass silvery box with metallic sparkles. Seeing as the color black for the console is already reserved for the Elite, I would make the Platinum version a gunmetal grey with an extremely glossy finish. I picked the color grey, because I don't think chrome would go over so well.
As for what it comes packed with I would include everything the Elite has, but add what most consumers would like to see the Elite come with in the first place and that is a high definition DVD player. It doesn't matter if the format is proven yet, or whether HD-DVD is being outsold by Blu-Ray. I am sure that adding the HD-DVD player would help close the gap between the two competing formats if not surpass Blu-Ray entirely or for good. The only reason why Blu-Ray leads in sales anyway is because of the PS3 selling close to 3 million units. It surely isn't because of people going out and purchasing tons of thousand dollar Blu-Ray players. Now, if Microsoft had released the XBOX360 Pro with an HD-DVD drive built in at launch there would already be about 10 million HD-DVD players in homes today and I wouldn't be writing my first blog ever about a Platinum XBOX360 that will never be released.
There will soon be three sku's for the XBOX360 and those of course are the Core, Pro, and Elite sku's. I don't see the problem with adding a forth with that being the Platinum. Below is a list of goodies that should come packed inside the shiny silvery box.
HD-DVD Player
HDMI Output
HDMI Cable
Wi-Fi
120GB Hard Drive
Hard Drive Cable to transfer info from 20gb drive to 120gb drive
2 live arcade games on hard drive for free
Free HD-DVD movie
$479.95 Price Point. I chose this price point so the Elite would have time to sell at $479, then drop it to $399.95 with the release of the Platinum. The XBOX360 Pro could drop to $319, and Core down to $249.
I think that this plan would work out just fine. Would you buy an XBOX360 Elite or Platinum?
